TOPICALLY-APPLIED PRODUCTS
ADVANTAGE® and FRONTLINE® are non-toxic flea control products applied to the skin which kill adult fleas coming into contact with your pet. These products are applied to the skin of the back of the neck and are spread over the body by the oils on the skin surface or in the bloodstream. Bathe your pet with a hypoallergenic moisturizing shampoo, such as HYLYTE® , before applying these products. Each are applied once monthly and in Western Oregon should be used YEAR-ROUND.
ORAL FLEA CONTROL
PROGRAM®
, the once-a-month oral flea control medication, contains Lufenuron, which
breaks the flea life cycle by preventing flea eggs from hatching. It is
non-toxic and has no side-effects. For PROGRAM®
to be maximally effective however, it should
be used with other forms of flea control, such as bathing,
spraying, and indoor environmental flea products.
SHAMPOOS
Flea shampoos
provide quick kill, but no residual activity, and work best in conjunction
with flea spray. We recommend products with an insecticide for the quick
kill and one with ingredients to soothe irritated skin and reduce itching.
For normal bathing, we recommend using a hypoallergenic shampoo, such
as HYLYTE, especially before
application of
ADVANTAGE or FRONTLINE.
Just because you no longer see adult fleas does not mean you have won the war.

INDOOR AREA TREATMENT SPRAYSince fleas spend 99% of their lifecycle off your pet and in your carpet, environmental flea control is necessary if your pet demonstrates any flea problem. SIPHOTROL AREA TREATMENT SPRAY is intended for indoor use only. It is a safe, effective and inexpensive product containing pyrethrin and Precor. The pyrethrin kills adult fleas on contact, while Precor, an insect growth regulator, inhibits flea eggs from hatching. One can of Siphotrol Area Treatment Spray will provide enough coverage for a 2,000 square-foot home. To significantly increase effectiveness, spray your home TWICE within a 2 week period to kill any emerging flea larvae which were not killed by the first application. Siphotrol Area Treatment Spray provides more uniform delivery of insecticide to your carpet than do flea bombs, and allows you to get hard-to-reach areas of your house, such as under furniture and in closets. Also, it is much more effective and safer for you and your pet than the more toxic products available in pet stores.
